Service unit is an important section of the institute. It comprises of four main sub-sections namely electrical, carpentry, plumbing and fabrication.
The main aim of service unit is to develop the civil and electrical infrastructures in the institute, and take care of their regular repair and maintenance. Water supply, water distribution, and cleaning of institute premises are done on daily basis by the unit. Service unit also assists in the fabrication of tools and machines under the research activities of the institute. The main functions of service unit are listed below.
- Assistance in engineering research works, especially in the fabrication of tools and machines.
- Planning and supervision of infrastructure developmental works in the institute.
- Electric power supply to institute buildings, roads and premises.
- Electrical maintenance of office buildings and residential quarters.
- Maintenance of overhead electrical lines, electrical tubular poles, transformer, operating panel, feeder panels, DG sets, street lights and solar street lights.
- Water supply to office buildings and residential quarters.
- Maintenance of water supply infrastructure i.e. water pumps, water pipe lines and water tanks of office buildings and residential quarters.
- Maintenance of civil infrastructure that includes office buildings, residential quarters, roads, parking sheds etc.
- Management of general maintenance and upkeep of institute premises.
- Cleaning of the institute buildings, premises and roads.
