The foundation for
the KVK Khunti, 23rd KVK for Jharkhand, sanctioned recently
by the Council was laid by Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE &
Director General, ICAR, Govt. of India on 5th May, 2014. |
'The new KVK, under the
administrative control of Indian Institute of Natural Resins and
Gums (IINRG), is being established in an area ofabout 49 acres
of landat Diyankel Village in Torpa block. The event was part of
the Farmer-Scientist Consultation Meet organized at KVK site in
which more than 400 farmers participated.

coordinated by Dr. A.K. Jaiswal, Head, TOT Division.
Dr. R. Ramani,
Director IINRG in his welcome address outlined purpose of the
meet and also briefed the role the new KVK for the agricultural
development of the district. Sister Daphne, Director, TorpaRural
Development Society for Women highlighted the success stories of
impressive income generation through lac cultivation under
demonstrations executed by the Institute and NGO with the
funding of district administration; she expressed high hopes of
positive impact of the new KVK for the
agricultural development of the district. Dr. A.K. Sikka congratulated IINRG on the sanction of a new KVK
under their jurisdiction and outlined some key areas of intervention
like checking off-season migration, lac cultivation and marketing of
produce. Dr. A.K. Singh assured required support of ICAR for
maximizing the role of the KVK in the region. Dr. M.P.
Pandey stressed on the judicious utilization of natural resources and
the KVK should lay emphasis on local needs. Dr. Kulkarni, in his
speech advised rural youth to opt agriculture as a profession and
suggested that new KVK should also take uplac for the benefit of
farmers. Chief Guest of the Meet, Dr. Ayyappan assured that ICAR
experts across the country would be deployed as per
requirement to provide technical knowledge and application of science
to upgrade their agricultural practices for enhanced returns. He
informed that the KVK will provide complete guidance of
agriculture to the farmers, from improved seeds to market. On this
occasion, chief guest also felicitated the key officials of the
district as well as the farmers who had given the lands the
establishment of the KVK. The inaugural event concluded with a vote
