[/inimum highly discriminating descriptors are marked with a (O).
Following are the internationally accepted uselul guidelines for scoring,
coding and recording of descriptor states. These. may be strictly lollowed:
Observations are to be recorded in Sl (CGS) System, The units are
menlioned in parenthesis lollowing the descriptor name;
b. Presence / absence of characters are scored as 0 or - (absent) and
1 or + (present);
c. Desciiptors which are continuously variable are recorded on a 1 - I
scale, where :
1. Very low 6, lntermediate to high
2. Very low to low 7. High
3. Low 8. High to very high
4. Low to intermediate 9. Very high
5. lntermediate

occurred, the full range ol codes is available for use by extension
ol the codes given or by interpolation between lhem;
When a descriptor is scored using 1 - I scale' such as in (c), '0'
would be scored when (i) the character is not expressed, or (ii) when
a descriptor is inapplicable.
For most of the qualitative characters the last state is'oTHERS'.
lf a particular state is not present in the descriptor states, write the
code '99' for 'OTHERS'. Additional inlormation for the descriplors
may be appended in the 'REMARKS' descriptor as follows:
lf the crimson colour state is not listed, then the crimson
colour is to be given jn the REI/IARKS column along with
the name of the descriptor.
ll. lf a particular descriptor is inapplicable, it is to be mentioned
in 'INAPPLICABLE' along with notes underthe RENIARKS
column.
For the descriptors which are not unilorm through out the
accession (e.9., mixed collection, genetic segregation),
alt the states should be mentioned in descending order
of occurrence under the REMARKS column (e.9, 50 %
