Shri
Soni Ram Puro S/o Sh. Laxman Puro, A young farmer (education 5th
standard) of village Bayanar, block Bhanupratappur, district Kanker,
Chhattisgarh, doing lac cultivation since last many years by traditional
method (only inoculation and harvesting of lac, no intermediate crop
operation/pest management) and gets very less income. Generally he gets Rs. 2,000 annually from lac. He attended one On-farm training programme on
"Scientific methods of lac cultivation" conducted by Indian Institute of
Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi at Bhanupratappur during the year 2005.
After attending training programme, He started scientific lac cultivation
with adopting all improved techniques of lac cultivation. He has 30
Palas, 2 Ber and 40 Kusum trees available for lac
cultivation. Besides his own lac host trees he has taken 20 Ber
trees on lease basis (half output basis) for lac cultivation. Agriculture,
lac and Minor Forest Produces is the major source on income of his farm
family. He has 4 acres of irrigated agricultural land in which paddy,
coarse cereals, vegetables are grown in majority. Sh. Puro has started
scientific lac cultivation during the year 2005. During the year 2005-06
he has produced 250 Kg. Kusmi broodlac and 35 Kg kusmi
sticklac (total worth Rs. 33,000) from 6 kusum trees. During the
year 2006-07 he has produced 350 Kg. broodlac and 170 Kg sticklac (total
worth Rs. 52,000) from 13 Kusum and 15 Palas trees. During
the year 2007-08 produced 700 Kg. broodlac and 200 Kg. sticklac (total
worth Rs. 76,000) form 23 Kusum and 25 Palas. During the
year 2008-09 produced 540 Kg broodlac and 65 Kg. sticklac(total worth Rs.
55,300) from 14 Kusum and 20 Palas trees.
With
the scientific methods of lac cultivation his earning from lac has
increased tremendously. He is so motivated for lac cultivation and wants
to increase the lac host trees for lac cultivation. He has planted 800
Flemingia semialata for the purpose of lac cultivation. He
sells broodlac with the help of forest department, Kanker and sells sticklac to the local haat. With the earning from lac he has
purchased one motor cycle, mobile phone and also made a boring in his
agricultural field. He has motivated various farmers in his and
neighboring villages for lac cultivation through information on scientific
methods of lac cultivation and profitability in lac cultivation. Shri Puro
is now a source of inspiration to other farmers in that area for lac
cultivation. |
